I'm leavin' on a jet plane...

Life has been full and busy around here, but that will have to wait for another post.

On Wednesday, I'm heading out with my mother-in-law to visit my sis-in-law in Vermont. I'll be gone for a week. eek. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit freaked out about being gone for so long....and about flying. I haven't been on a plane since college (aka since before 9/11 and before kids). I had kinda decided that I was not going to go. We had an insanely busy week last week at church and I couldn't even fathom having to pack a suitcase....let alone everything else that needed to be done before I left.

So I kept saying, "I don't think I'm gonna go...."

Jake kept saying things like, "You should go to Barnes & Noble and get a book or two to read while you're gone..."

Umm, perhaps he didn't hear me. "I think I'm going to stay home! I'm too tired to even pack..."

Jake: "You should just pack a few pairs of pants and some t-shirts and buy whatever else you need when you get there."

me: "Hello?? Are you listening? I'm not going!"

Jake: "So, what book are you going to get?"

Arg! Maybe it was time for a different approach....

me: "I'm scared to fly!"

Jake: "It's safer than driving. You'll be fine!"

me: "What if I get homesick?"

Jake: "It's only a week! You'll be fine!"

me: "What if the girls cry...and miss me?"

Jake: "It's only a week. They'll be fine!"

me: "It's too stressful to arrange for them to be taken care of while I'm gone."

Jake: "They're going to work with me. It will be fine!!"

At this point, I can tell he's getting annoyed. And that he's not going to back down. And suddenly, I was really excited about the prospect of going. I'm so thankful for a husband who knows that I'm a home-body and that I need that extra push to actually go.

While I'm still not thrilled at the prospect of flight, I'm really excited about uninterrupted reading time! I know it will be beautiful in Vermont and we will have a great time. I can count on one hand the amount of times I have left California and I'm excited about seeing new places! I hear they have four real seasons there! And I bet I'll be able to actually breathe.....I fear my lungs will go into shock at the lack of filth in the air!

My girls and my husband and our house and the world, in general, will be just fine while I'm gone. At least that's what my husband keeps telling me....

I'll be praying for you! Flying is not my favorite thing either. I know your family will be okay at home without you. Yes, I'm sure the girls will miss you, but they'll probably be excited to spend so much time with Daddy, too. Enjoy your week in Vermont! I know you'll have fun but it will really refresh you and make you ready to go home and be a wife and mom again. And after last week, you definitely deserve a vacation!

what a great, relaxing trip! I just found out we got an all expense paid 5 day trip to puerta vallarta (?) in Jan (yes, almost a year away!), and my initial response was the same, "ack! no way"...the kids, the house, school...! but after a minute of thinking about it I had a change of heart (did you hear the part that it's 'free'!?). Have a wonderful time with your family...I want to see pics of a real season!! ;)
